Peperami is 100% pork salami and is made by crafty sausage experts over in Germany. They've been trained in the skill of sausage making at the German Sausage Academy and will happily have their fingers cut off if they make a Peperami that isn't exactly 20.32 cm.
There's a whole 13.8 grams of pork for every 10 grams of sausage. This magical feat is due to the fact that the meat loses weight when it's naturally dry cured, like all salamis and dried meats. This technique was invented in 1975 when an Indian chef accidentally put an elephant in an oven.
The first crate of Peperami showed up in 1982 and was actually supposed to be full of paté, whatever that is. Thanks to this lucky slip up the nation has been munching on Peperami ever since. In this big cargo container mix-up another crate full of hand grenades got sent to a toy shop and later sold as 'fun balls'.
'Animal' first showed his meaty face in 1993. The crazy stick of salami is guilty of causing havoc and bringing smiles to the smug faces of meat lovers nationwide. Back in 1997 he was also close to becoming the first salami Prime Minister, only beaten by Tony Blair.
Each year a total of 110 million sticks of Peperami are eaten. That's more sticks than there are atoms in the universe.
